Job Description

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Assist in preparing and caring for pre-operative patients in accordance with hospital standards.
  • Prepare patient skin for surgery and maintain strict aseptic technique.
  • Monitor and prevent breaches in sterile technique.
  • Provide comfort, privacy, and support to patients.
  • Transport patients to and from the Operating Room.
  • Position patients based on surgical procedure requirements.
  • Identify, handle, and care for biological specimens.
  • Prepare the Operating Room by setting up instruments, tables, and supplies per case type.
  • Perform scrub duties under the direction of a professional nurse.
  • Establish and maintain sterile fields; pass instruments, sutures, and supplies to physicians.
  • Utilize and maintain physician preference cards.
  • Collaborate effectively with the surgical team.
  • Maintain a safe environment and adhere to Universal Precautions.
  • Demonstrate expertise with surgical instruments, supplies, and equipment.
  • Monitor and control the surgical environment, including traffic control and sanitation.
  • Follow facility policies for decontamination, processing, and sterilization.
  • Adapt patient care to meet developmental, cultural, and population-specific needs.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Requirements:

  • High School Diploma or equivalent.
  • Completion of an accredited Surgical Technology program or LVN/LPN program.
  • Minimum 2 years of experience preferred.
  • BLS certification required (AHA only).
  • Certified Surgical Technologist or valid LVN/LPN license required.

Preferences:

Ability to proficiently scrub in 3 or more specialty areas, such as:

  • Transplants.
  • Open Heart.
  • Urology.
  • Neurology.
  • Titanium Rib.
  • Robotics.
