Job Description

Job Summary:

• The Surgical Technologist supports the surgical team during the intraoperative phase of patient care under the direction of an RN.
• The position is responsible for preparing the OR, maintaining sterile technique, ensuring proper instrumentation and equipment, and anticipating the needs of the surgical team.

Duties and Responsibilities:

• Set up the OR and sterile field according to scheduled procedures.
• Prepare and organize surgical instruments, supplies, and equipment.
• Scrub for L&D procedures, including C-sections and vaginal deliveries.
• Perform accurate counts of sponges, sharps, instruments, and other items.
• Anticipate and respond to the needs of surgeons and the surgical team.
• Assist with patient positioning, draping, and operative-site preparation.
• Handle and transfer surgical specimens according to established protocols.
• Ensure surgical instruments and equipment are functioning properly.
• Assist with surgical dressings and post-procedure room turnover.
• Properly clean, decontaminate, sterilize, and prepare instrumentation.
• Follow AORN, OSHA, infection-control, and sterile-technique standards.
• Maintain a safe, organized, and efficient operating-room environment.

Education & Certifications:

• CST certification required; grandfathered candidates accepted.
• BLS – AHA Only required.

Skills & Experience:

• Experienced L&D Surgical Technologist with at least 2 years of dedicated L&D experience, including C-sections and vaginal deliveries, who is comfortable working in a fast-paced OR environment and maintaining strict sterile technique.
