Job Summary:
- The Certified Medical Assistant (Float), under the direction of a physician, assists in delivering healthcare to patients.
- Responsibilities include a wide variety of patient care activities, such as maintaining clinical records/ documentation, administering medications and injections, and taking vital signs.
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Serve as a float pool resource across various clinics within the local region.
- Assist in examination and treatment of patients under physician direction.
- Prepare treatment rooms, clean and disinfect equipment, restock supplies, and maintain inventory.
- Escort patients from waiting room and prepare them for examination.
- Interview patients and record information in the medical record.
- Ensure charts and forms are ready for provider review.
- Measure, collect, and record vital signs (pulse, temperature, blood pressure, weight, height).
- Perform routine patient testing, acquire/process EKGs, and collect/process blood and urine specimens.
- Prepare and administer routine oral/rectal medications, injections, and vaccinations as directed by the physician (excluding controlled substances).
- Identify and report adverse reactions.
- Perform administrative duties such as answering phones, scheduling appointments, and relaying messages.
- Facilitate or lead team huddles and meetings.
- May assist in workflow management, staff schedules, mentoring, and training.
- Participate in process improvement initiatives.
Medical Assistant certification from an accredited program:
- National Certified Medical Assistant (NCMA) β NCCT.
- Certified Medical Assistant (CMA) β AAMA or ARMA.
- Certified Clinical Medical Assistant (CCMA) β NHA.
- Registered Medical Assistant (RMA) β AMT or AAMP.
- National Registered Certified Medical Assistant (NRCMA) β NAHP.
- Clinical Medical Assistant Certified (CMAC) β AMCA.
Experience:
- 2+ years clinical experience.
- Epic EMR experience preferred.
- Manual vitals experience.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
- Able to travel regularly to various clinics and complete assigned duties.
- Knowledge of principles of safe and accurate medical administration.
- Knowledge of the β5 Rightsβ: right patient, right medication, right dose, right route, right time.
- Ability to accurately document patient information per organizational policies and HIPAA regulations.
- Able to observe patient conditions and notify healthcare providers of abnormalities.
- Able to give injections and draw blood.
- Knowledge of medical terminology.
- Excellent bedside manner; approachable and reassuring to patients.
- Ability to follow physician instructions accurately.
- Familiarity with medical charts and records.
- High attention to detail.
Interview:
- 2 rounds β 1 virtual, 1 onsite.
