Job Description
Job Summary:
- To provide excellent customer service and assist the patient care team by providing casting and medical assistance to the licensed providers during patient scheduled clinic visits or patients in the emergency center.
- Provides operational assistance, ensuring and coordinating the intake and rooming of patients to effectively manage the patient visit cycle time.
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Applies casts, splints and performs basic hardware maintenance.
- Works with patients and families on all aspects of care.
- Complete documentation meeting departmental standards for content, accuracy and timeliness
- Provides education to families regarding cast maintenance and skin care after cast removal
- Provides timely communication with the orthopedic team.
- Manages casting and clinic supplies.
- Updates PAR levels when needed and communicates regularly with person ordering supplies.
- Shares the responsibility of checking exam room supplies daily.
Education and Experience:
- Required- H.S. Diploma or GED.
- Required- 3 years Experience doing basic casting, splinting, and hardware maintenance.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
- Pediatric fiberglass and plaster casting experience.
- Requires knowledge of basic aseptic technique and the familiarity with all orthopedic instrumentation, hardware, equipment and casting/splitting procedures.
- Must have knowledge of development stages in pediatric patients, nursing/medical assistant patient care tasks, the managed care industry, related medical terminology and customer service concepts.
- The ability to do basic casting, splinting, and hardware maintenance.
- Must be able to proficiently operate a personal computer and basic clinic/patient care, office equipment.
- Demonstrate interpersonal skills.
- Demonstrate good verbal communication skills.
- Demonstrate good time management skills and provide excellent customer service skills.
- The ability to demonstrate quick decision making and self-initiated work behaviors are necessary.
- Bilingual in Spanish/English preferred.
