Job Description
Job Summary:
- The Registered Respiratory Therapist (RRT) is responsible for providing advanced respiratory care to patients with cardiopulmonary disorders.
- The therapist applies specialized knowledge of respiratory care practices, techniques, and equipment to assess, manage, and treat patients in accordance with physician orders and established institutional protocols.
- The position requires sound clinical judgment, effective communication, and a commitment to delivering high-quality patient care.
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Administer and manage respiratory care procedures, including oxygen therapy, aerosolized medication delivery, airway clearance, and invasive and non-invasive ventilation.
- Perform cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) and assist in emergency situations as required.
- Evaluate and interpret physicians’ orders and diagnostic test results to determine appropriate treatment
- plans.
- Implement approved protocols under physician direction and adapt therapy as the patient’s condition evolves.
- Educate patients and families on respiratory therapies and equipment use.
- Monitor patient responses to treatment and make appropriate recommendations to the care team.
- Accurately document all treatments, assessments, and related data in the medical record.
- Ensure compliance with infection control, safety, and confidentiality policies (including HIPAA).
- Collaborate effectively with physicians, nurses, and other healthcare professionals to ensure coordinated patient care.
- Participate in quality improvement initiatives and demonstrate ongoing professional development.
Required Certifications and Licenses:
- Basic Life Support (BLS) – American Heart Association (AHA) only.
- Registered Respiratory Therapist (RRT).
- Texas Medical Board (TMB) License.
Minimum Experience:
- A minimum of one (1) year of recent experience as a Registered Respiratory Therapist.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
- Comprehensive understanding of respiratory care techniques, equipment, and pharmacologic agents.
- Strong critical thinking and problem-solving abilities.
- Capacity to work effectively under pressure in a dynamic clinical environment.
- Proficiency in electronic medical record (EMR) systems and basic computer applications.
- Demonstrated professionalism, integrity, and commitment to patient-centered care.
