Job Description

Job Summary:

  • The Multimodality Technologist, under the general supervision of a Radiologist, performs diagnostic imaging procedures in two or more disciplines, dedicating at least 25% of work to an advanced modality such as CT, MRI, Nuclear Medicine, or Interventional Radiology.
  • The technologist is responsible for providing high-quality imaging services for both ambulatory and hospital patients, ensuring diagnostic accuracy, patient safety, and adherence to established protocols and regulatory standards.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Perform high-quality multimodality imaging procedures in accordance with established exam protocols and departmental standards.
  • Demonstrate a clear understanding of radiation dose reference levels, dose monitoring practices, and appropriate responses for cases exceeding set thresholds.
  • Conduct point-of-care testing (iSTAT) for creatinine levels when necessary.
  • Communicate effectively with patients and families using AIDET principles to ensure comfort, clarity, and professionalism throughout the imaging process.
  • Prepare and position patients appropriately for procedures, utilizing immobilization devices and selecting correct exposure factors.
  • Adhere to all safety, infection control, radiation protection, and sterile technique protocols.
  • Maintain imaging equipment and work areas to meet quality and cleanliness standards; promptly report malfunctions and assist in inventory management.
  • Verify and document patient information, requisitions, and relevant clinical details accurately within the electronic medical record.
  • Maintain compliance with all institutional and departmental policies and regulatory requirements.
  • Participate in continuing education and demonstrate ongoing competency in all assigned modalities.
  • Serve as a preceptor for new team members or trainees, providing guidance on department procedures and best practices.
  • Be available for call rotation as required.

Required Certifications / Licenses:

  • Basic Life Support (BLS, American Heart Association only).
  • American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT – CT).
  • Texas Medical Board (TMB) License.

Minimum Experience:

  • Minimum of one (1) year of experience as a Multimodality Technologist.
  • Experience in a Level II Trauma Center and Comprehensive Stroke Center highly preferred.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Demonstrated ability to perform multimodality imaging procedures accurately and efficiently.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills to provide excellent patient care and teamwork.
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision and make sound clinical decisions.
  • Knowledge of radiation safety principles, emergency response, and sterile field techniques.
  • Ability to remain calm and professional in high-stress or emergent situations.
  • Proficiency with imaging equipment operation, calibration, and troubleshooting.
  • Commitment to patient satisfaction, safety, and quality improvement.
