Job Summary:
- The Medical Laboratory Scientist II performs, monitors, and validates a full range of complex laboratory testing and analysis to support the diagnosis and treatment of patients.
- The role requires a strong understanding of laboratory principles, independent problem-solving abilities, and strict adherence to quality and safety standards.
- The incumbent is expected to work with minimal supervision while maintaining accuracy, reliability, and compliance with regulatory standards.
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Perform laboratory tests and analyses in accordance with established procedures and regulatory standards.
- Ensure compliance with quality control, quality assurance, safety, and infection control protocols.
- Conduct routine and advanced maintenance, calibration, and troubleshooting of laboratory instruments.
- Accurately document and report test results in a timely manner.
- Maintain appropriate inventory levels of reagents, supplies, and materials.
- Communicate effectively with laboratory staff, other healthcare professionals, and external partners.
- Participate in laboratory improvement initiatives, validation studies, and continuing education activities.
- Demonstrate and train laboratory techniques and procedures to students or junior personnel.
Required Education / Certifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in Medical Laboratory Science or a related field.
- ASCP (American Society for Clinical Pathology).
- AMT (American Medical Technologists).
Minimum Experience:
- Minimum of three (3) years of recent experience in a clinical laboratory setting.
- Experience with EPIC electronic medical record systems highly preferred.
- Experience with client instrumentation preferred.
- Background in Hematology and Urinalysis required.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
- In-depth knowledge of laboratory operations, methodologies, and regulatory standards (CLIA, CAP, etc.)
- Strong analytical, organizational, and critical thinking skills.
- Ability to prioritize tasks in a fast-paced environment with minimal supervision.
- Effective written and verbal communication skills.
- Proficiency with laboratory information systems (LIS) and general computer applications.
- Commitment to teamwork, accuracy, and continuous quality improvement.
Additional Information:
- This position primarily supports Hematology and Urinalysis testing departments.
- The role involves evening hours and may include occasional weekend or holiday coverage based on operational needs.
