Job Description

Job Summary:

  • The Pharmacy Technician assists the pharmacist in the preparation, compounding, repackaging, filling, and delivery of medications for patients ranging from newborns to adults.
  • The role supports safe and accurate medication dispensing, including controlled substance management, in compliance with hospital and departmental standards.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Assist with preparation, compounding, repackaging, and dispensing of medications.
  • Support procurement, storage, record-keeping, and distribution of controlled substances.
  • Accurately enter patient diagnosis, weight, allergies, and body surface area into the system.
  • Follow aseptic technique and infection control standards for sterile product preparation.
  • Complete annual aseptic technique recertification with a minimum score of 90%.
  • Ensure medication accuracy as verified by the pharmacist.
  • Perform batch, medication, and prescription order entry.
  • Maintain adequate inventory of medications and supplies.
  • Apply dilution and expiration dating labels per department standards after pharmacist verification.

Certifications / Licenses:

  • Required- RPHT-TX – Reg Pharmacy Technician – TX State Board of Pharmacy Or PHAR INT – Pharmacy Intern State Board of Pharmacy.
  • Preferred- CPHT – Cert-Pharm.
  • TECH Certification Pharmacy Technician Certification Board.
  • IV Certification (required).

Experience:

  • Recent clean room experience (required).

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Knowledge of hospital and departmental pharmaceutical handling standards.
  • Strong math, reading, and communication skills.
  • Ability to operate equipment used in sterile product preparation.
