Job Description

Job Summary:

  • Maternal Fetal Medicine (MFM) Sonographer performs advanced diagnostic ultrasound examinations for high-risk obstetric patients under the supervision of a qualified physician.
  • This role focuses on assessing fetal development, maternal and fetal anatomy, vascular structures, and supporting the diagnosis and management of complex pregnancies in an ambulatory care setting.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Perform advanced high-risk obstetric ultrasound examinations, including:
    • Level II fetal anatomy scans  (single & multiple gestations).
    • Fetal echocardiograms.
    • Nuchal translucency & first-trimester screenings.
    • Biophysical Profiles (BPP).
    • Fetal growth assessments.
    • Middle Cerebral Artery Doppler studies.
    • Umbilical vein Doppler studies.
    • Cervical length evaluations.
    • Ultrasound guidance for invasive procedures (e.g., amniocentesis).
  • Produce high-quality diagnostic images following departmental protocols.
  • Recognize normal and abnormal sonographic findings and communicate results to physicians.
  • Review patient history, medical records, laboratory results, and previous imaging before examinations.
  • Prepare patients for procedures while ensuring safety, comfort, and privacy.
  • Collaborate with Maternal-Fetal Medicine physicians, nurses, and multidisciplinary teams.
  • Document findings accurately and complete required reports, logs, and billing documentation.
  • Perform routine equipment maintenance, quality assurance, and report equipment issues.
  • Participate in quality improvement initiatives, continuing education, and departmental meetings.
  • Maintain compliance with HIPAA, infection control, and hospital policies.

Required Qualifications:

  • Minimum 1 year of experience performing high-risk obstetric ultrasound in a hospital or Maternal-Fetal Medicine (MFM) setting.
  • Experience performing advanced fetal imaging studies.
  • Strong knowledge of obstetric anatomy, fetal development, and Doppler ultrasound techniques.
  • Excellent communication, patient care, and documentation skills.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience in a dedicated Maternal-Fetal Medicine practice or hospital-based MFM department.
  • Strong collaboration and multidisciplinary team experience.
