Job Description
Job Summary:
- To provide safe care for patients following established standards and practices in accordance with professional and hospital standards.
- Contacts: Constant interaction with internal and external customers to include (but not limited to) patients, families, physicians, employees and visitors.
- Assists in the coordination of patient care: Assists registered nurse in planning patient care. Collaborates with other health team members. Participates in performance improvement activities. Acts in the role of support during the surgical procedure but not as a surgical assistant during the surgical procedure.
- Implements patient care: Creates and maintains asepsis. Performs scrubbing duties. Communicates patient information to the appropriate persons. Accounts for all equipment and supplies used in patient care.
- Interpersonal skills: Communicates with peers, other health team members, patients, visitors. Maintains adaptability. Supports teamwork within the department and units. Resolves problems. Consistently meets the department’s Customer Service Quality Standards.
- Clinical preceptor: Performs clinical preceptor role for scrubbing and follows orientation outline, collaborating with the patient care coordinator, educator/Clinical Nurse Specialist.
- Care of environment and equipment: Maintains cleanliness in unit. Maintains and cleans equipment. Held responsible for the equipment use and care in which is used during the surgical case. Performs other job duties and responsibilities as required.
Knowledge/Skills:
- Knowledge of organizational policies and procedures to provide patient care.
- Knowledge of common safety hazards and precautions to establish a safe work environment.
- Skill in preparing and maintaining effective working relationships.
- Ability to communicate clearly.

Other:
- Ability to organize and prioritize multiple tasks quickly in a fast-paced environment.
- This position has limited access to Medication Rooms. Medications should not be handled at any time. Any questions should be directed to your supervisor or the charge nurse of the unit in question.
