Job Summary:
- The incumbent will serve as Perfusionist responsible for performing perfusion on cardiac surgical patient, cell saver on orthopedic, cardiac and neurosurgical patients.
- In addition to the procedures all equipment, supplies, and documentation must be maintained in accordance with all regulatory rules.
- Perfusionist responsibilities will approximately equal Ninety (90) percent and cell saver activity will represent approximately Ten (10) percent.
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Performs selection of the perfusion circuit and prime solution to accommodate the requirements of the patient, the proposed procedure, and the preferences of the primary surgeon.
- Prepares the disposable and non-disposable components of the cardiopulmonary circuit in preparation for the impending surgical exercises.
- Assures the safety and function of the heart lung machine, the disposable circuit, and all related ancillary equipment.
- Manages the patient on cardiopulmonary bypass with awareness of appropriate pharmacological interventions.
- Demonstrates extensive knowledge of pump physiology with its altered homeostatic ramifications.
- Maintains awareness of the conduct of the surgical procedure.
- Carries out non-routine procedures under constantly changing conditions in conformance with general instructions from supervisor or physician.
- Works directly with patients and customers.
- Collaborate with internal and external customers.
- Works with other healthcare professionals and staff.
- Interact frequently with individuals at director level or above.
Required Education:
- Appropriate degree from an approved program in Health Science or related field.
- Graduation from a CAHEA (AMA’s Committee on Allied Health, Education and Accreditation) accredited program.
Required Certifications & Licensure:
- Current licensure as a perfusionist by Oklahoma State Board of Medical Licensure and Supervision.
Required Skills & Experience:
- Effective interpersonal communication skills.
- Strong written and oral communication abilities.
- Demonstrated patient care skills.
- Effective organization and ability to manage a multi-task role.
- Understanding of healthcare delivery processes in a medical office.
- One (1) to Two (2) years of related experience.
