Job Description
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Provide technical assistance as a Surgical (Scrub) Technician during surgical procedures.
- Prepare operating rooms using physician preference cards.
- Set up sterile fields and maintain sterile technique.
- Perform surgical scrub prior to procedures.
- Assist physicians with patient draping and operative field preparation.
- Handle and correctly identify operative specimens for laboratory analysis.
- Obtain, inspect, and operate surgical equipment and diagnostic devices.
- Anticipate surgeon needs and provide instruments and supplies during procedures.
- Recognize and correct breaks in sterile technique.
- Participate in sponge, needle, and instrument counts.
- Clean, sterilize, and maintain surgical instruments and operating rooms.
- Assist in training other surgical technicians.
- Perform clerical and patient care duties if assigned to Labor & Delivery.
- Complete additional duties as assigned.
Requirements:
Experience:
- Graduation from an accredited Surgical Technology program.
- Ophthalmic surgery experience required.
Certifications/Licenses:
- Certified Surgical Technologist (CST) required.
- Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification from the American Heart Association.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
- Knowledge of basic human anatomy and first-aid principles.
- Ability to maintain sterile technique.
- Strong teamwork and communication skills.
- Ability to assess and provide age-appropriate patient care across all populations (neonate through geriatric).
- Ability to work effectively with physicians, nurses, and surgical staff.
Preferences:
- Prior ophthalmic surgical experience strongly preferred/required.
- Experience in ambulatory surgery center settings preferred.
