Job Summary:
Provides surgical assistance to the surgical residents and attending in the oral surgery clinic and dental ambulatory OR/procedure room.
Duties and Responsibilities (in order of importance and/or frequency):
- Escorts patients to the surgical chair, screens patients awaiting surgery, reviews medical record to confirm treatment required and to ensure that chart is complete in terms of notes, PHM lad results, etc.
- Must be available at all times to provide “four-handed” assistance to the clinicians.
- Ensures that all counter tops, mayo stands, equipment, etc., are cleaned and disinfected prior to setting up.
- Organizes all sterile instruments, surgical trays, equipment, etc. for each procedure in Operatory.
- Takes radiograph as requested, before, during and/or after the procedure. Restocks cabinets and drawers; orders and stocks medical/surgical supplies.
- Provides chair-side assistance in monitoring patient’s vitals, suctioning, passing of instruments, medications, etc.
- Removes all instruments and equipment at the end of the procedure and disposes of medical waste during the break-down period.
- Demonstrates proven ability to respond effectively in case of an emergency.
Education:
- Associate’s Degree
Skills:
- Dental Assistant Certification and Basic Life Support (BLS) certification is required.
- Minimum of 3 year’s experience required, 5 years preferred
- Excellent written and oral communication
Certification – surgical Tech BLS/ Heart Saver
Experience – Scrub role in Vascular/ Urology/ General Services Float to NYEE

Days Per Week: 5.00
