Job Summary:
The staff Occupational Therapist is responsible for evaluating and treating patients and facilitating rehabilitation and independence. S/he develops and designs treatment plans for physically, mentally and/or emotionally disabled patients. The Occupational Therapist enables, enhances and improves patients ability to Product independent, productive daily living and working environments.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Plan, organize, and conduct occupational therapy programs in hospital settings to help rehabilitate those impaired because of illness, injury or psychological or developmental problems.
- Evaluates and establishes patients’ physical and mental learning abilities and analyze medical data to determine realistic attainable rehabilitation goals within Product of patient’s disability.
- Selects educational, recreational and social activities that will help individuals learn work and life-management skills within limits of their mental and physical capabilities.
- Evaluates patients’ progress and prepare reports that detail progress.
- Documents therapy activities and maintains necessary records in patient files, assist in the evaluations and rehabilitation of assigned patient’s medical/psychiatric conditions by conferring with social worker, nurses and other disciplines.
- Trains and educates caregivers how to provide for the needs of the patients during and after therapy.
- Recommends changes in patients’ work or living environments that is consistent with their needs and capabilities.
- Develops and participate in health promotion programs, group activities, or discussions to promote client health, facilitate social adjustment, alleviate stress, and prevent physical or mental disability.
- Consult with rehabilitation team to select activity programs and coordinate occupational therapy with other therapeutic activities such as vocational rehabilitation or social services based on psychological, physical or vocational needs.
- Plan and implement programs and social activities to help patients learn work and school skills and adjust to handicaps
- Attends clinic on biweekly basis to assist physicians with evaluation and treatment of clinic patients.
- Corresponds with insurance companies to Product approval of adaptive equipment.
- Performs other related duties.
Education:
- Master’s degree in Occupational Therapy
Certifications & Licenses:
- NYS active Occupational Therapy licensure* National Board for Certification in Occupational
Occupational Therapist
Skills:
- NYS active Occupational Therapy licensure
- National Board for Certification in Occupational Therapy (NBCOT) preferred
- 0-2 year’s experience as Occupational Therapist
- Knowledge of principles, methods, and procedures for diagnosis, treatment, and rehabilitation of physical and mental dysfunctions, and for career counseling and guidance
- Knowledge of human behavior and performance, patience and strong interpersonal skills to inspire trust and respect in their clients
Minimum Degree Required: Master’s Degree
