Job Description
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Patient Preparation & CareReview patient medical history and imaging requisitions.
- Explain procedures to patients and obtain informed consent.
- Ensure appropriate pre-procedural preparations (e.g., fasting, hydration, glucose levels).
- Imaging ProceduresPerform PET and PET/CT scans following established protocols.
- Administer radiopharmaceuticals and contrast agents under physician supervision.
- Position patients accurately for optimal imaging results.
- Quality Assurance & Equipment MaintenanceConduct regular quality control checks on imaging equipment.
- Troubleshoot and report equipment malfunctions.
- Maintain accurate records of equipment maintenance and quality assurance activities.
- Documentation & ComplianceDocument radiopharmaceutical doses and patient information in required systems.
- Ensure compliance with radiation safety protocols and regulatory guidelines.
- Maintain patient confidentiality in accordance with HIPAA and hospital policies.
- Collaboration & Communication Work closely with radiologists, physicians, and other healthcare professionals.
- Participate in departmental meetings and continuing education opportunities.
Required Education:
- Completion of an approved School of Nuclear Medicine Technology Program.
Required Certifications & Licensure:
- Must be registered with the Nuclear Medicine Technology Certification Board – Nuclear Medicine Tech (NMT) or American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT) – Nuclear Medicine Technology (N).
- Must possess an active license from the State of New York Department of Health (Diagnostic Radiologic Technologist License – Diagnostic with Injection Registered).
- Must possess an active CT certification to perform diagnostic CT and perform PET – CT fusion imaging (ARRT – Computed Tomography (CT)).
- Maintains active Nuclear Medicine, CT licenses and BLS.
- Maintains technical competency through continued education.
