Job Description
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Perform clinical laboratory procedures and examinations and other test and procedures conducted by the Microbiology, Chemistry and Hematology Laboratories.
- Performing procedures – Accessioning, Specimen Testing, Quality Control, and Proficiency Testing.
- Reporting and Documentation of Results.
- Adhere to Safety Protocols.
- Performing examinations.
- Performs regular accessioning tests and procedures on blood, urine, blood fluids, and body fluids to assist in diagnosis and treatment on specimens submitted to the lab (performs bench work).
- Monitor and data entry and verify patient results.
- Reviews in-house and reference laboratory incomplete worklist.
- Reviews abnormal/critical result queue.
- Organizes workflow to facilitate completion of assigned tasks.
- Responds to STAT and routine requests within the expected turnaround time.
- Follows all NYS DOH, College of American Pathologists, JC, and CMS guidelines.
- Maintains a safe and clean working environment by following all infection control policies, biosafety policies, and hazardous waste policies.
- Enters raw data from instruments into computer systems to identify final results
- Record results on report forms and laboratory reports (record books, electronic forms/books)
- Able to process specimens.
- Able to prepare and examine slides and/or smears.
- Ensures operation of analyzers and other instruments with calibration and quality controls; performs preventive maintenance following manufacturer’s instructions; and troubleshoot instrument issues.
- Uphold the quality control program; as well as, participate in the quality assurance program.
- Provides information to medical providers by answering questions and requests.
- Be able to package, label, and standardize laboratory media, reagents, and controls to ensure the laboratory has suffice and up-to-date supplies.
- Record results of important data on prepared products, or oversee this operation.
- Maintains technical competency.
- Maintains preventative maintenance program.
- Promotes a positive work image through productivity and professional interaction with patients and other hospital personnel.
Requirements:
- 1 year Clinical Laboratory Technologist experience.
- At least 1 year experience.
- Valid license to practice as a Clinical Laboratory Technologist issued by NYSED.
- BLS preferred.
Schedule Notes:
- Candidates must be available for all 3 shifts: 12:00am – 8:00am , 8:00am – 4:00pm , 4:00pm – 12:00am – 35 hrs per week.
- Rotating Weekends and Holidays required.
