Job Description
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Provides respiratory care and support as an integral member of the multi-disciplinary team.
- Assesses patients and recommends respiratory treatments based on physician diagnosis.
- Administers treatments including aerosolized medications, sputum inductions, ventilator/BiPAP management.
- Monitors and adjusts mechanical ventilators as per department protocol.
- Documents treatments, responses, and patient progress in the EMR.
- Performs diagnostic tests (e.g., pulmonary function, sleep studies).
- Maintains and operates respiratory therapy equipment; responds to emergency codes including CODE 99, Trauma, and RRT.
- Instructs patients and families on equipment usage and self-care techniques.
- Participates in in-service education and maintains equipment inventory.
- Performs related duties as assigned.
Education:
- Associate degree in Respiratory Therapy from an AMA-approved program.
Licensure & Certifications:
- NBRC Registered Respiratory Therapist (RRT) certificate.
- New York State license as a Respiratory Therapist.
- BLS certification.
- ACLS certification.
- Continuing education credits as required for NBRC/NYS.
- NYFD G-71 certificate.
- Active membership in AARC and NYDART.
Preferred Skills & Experience:
- Experience in acute, chronic, and critical care for adult, pediatric, and neonatal patients.
