Job Description
Job Summary:
- An integral member of the surgical team who provides support for surgeons throughout the operation by preparing, providing and caring for instruments and equipment and maintaining a sterile field.
Education:
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Graduation from a school of Surgical Technology preferred.
Certifications/ License:
- BLS certification required.
- Surgical Tech certification required.
Experience:
- One or more years experience in an acute care hospital setting in the operating room or an instrument care environment preferred.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
- Knowledge of care and handling of instruments and equipment.
- Knowledge of sterilization and cleansing procedures.
- Ability to read, write, and communicate verbally in English.
NATURE OF SUPERVISION:
- Responsible to: Clinical Manager Operating Room and Director, Surgical Services.
WORK ENVIRONMENT:
- Employee will be instructed in Universal Precautions and Right to Know.
- Employee will be expected to utilize all protective equipment available whenever there is a potential for exposure to infectious materials or hazardous chemicals.
- Cleaning, repair and replacement of this protective equipment will be furnished by the hospital.
- Utilizes available tools to prevent worker injuries.
Physical Requirements:
- Heavy physical effort requiring standing, walking or lifting most of the day.
- Requires ability to speak, hear and communicate verbal and written materials.
