Job Summary:
- The Central Supply Technician is responsible for the cleaning, processing, and sterilization of surgical instrumentation, patient care equipment, and reusable medical/surgical items.
- This position also functions as a Case Cart Attendant for the Operating Room.
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Receive, sort, process, assemble, and sterilize patient care equipment and surgical instruments according to departmental policies.
- Understand all detergents and disinfectants used to process items.
- Implement Universal Precautions and proper use of PPE.
- Operate and load Steam, ETO, Sterrad, and Steris sterilizers.
- Perform, incubate, read, and record biological tests and Bowie Dick tests.
- Complete sterilization records by documenting all processed items, using the correct label/load gun, interpreting chemical integrators, and verifying computerized printouts.
- Adhere to the correct use of computerized instrument count sheets.
- Prepare Operating Room case carts using physician preference cards to assemble required instruments, drugs, and special equipment.
- Notify the nursing team of missing items, communicate supply and equipment shortages with the coordinator, and complete the daily checklist.
- Lift a minimum of 50 lbs., push and pull a minimum of 60 lbs., and stand for the duration of the shift.

Required Education:
- High school diploma or equivalent.
Required Certifications & Licensure:
- National Certification: CRCST or CBSPDT, Certified Registered Central Service Technician (CRCST) or Certification Board for Sterile Processing and Distribution Technician (CBSPD).
Required Experience:
- 5+ years of Sterile Processing experience.
- Central Processing Course or 1 year of instrument processing experience.
- Experience processing surgical instrumentation and patient care equipment.
