Job Description
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Responsible for cleaning, processing, and sterilizing surgical instruments, patient care equipment, and reusable medical/surgical items.
- Functions as a Case Cart Attendant for the Operating Room.
- Sorts, assembles, and sterilizes items according to departmental policies.
- Operates and loads sterilizers (Steam, ETO, Sterrad, Steris) and performs related testing (biological tests, Bowie Dick tests).
- Completes sterilization records accurately.
- Prepares case carts using doctors’ preference lists; communicates shortages with nursing team and coordinator.
- Lifts a minimum of 50 lbs., pushes/pulls a minimum of 60 lbs., and stands for entire shift.
- Adheres to Universal Precautions and proper use of PPE.
- Uses computerized instrument count sheets and monitors printouts for accuracy.
- Complies with organizational competencies and safety standards.
Required Skills & Experience
- Central Processing Course or 1 year experience in instrument processing – Required.
- Must be able to work every other weekend – Required.
- Must work three (3) out of six (6) holidays – Required.
- Must be available for rotating schedule/shifts based on needs – Required.
- Minimum 5 years of experience – Required.
Education:
- High school diploma or equivalent – Required.
Licensure & Certifications:
- National Certification: CRCST or CBSPDT – Required.
