Sterile Processing Technician

Job Description

Duties and Responsibilities:

• Responsible for cleaning, processing, and sterilizing surgical instruments, patient care equipment, and reusable medical/surgical items.
• Functions as a Case Cart Attendant for the Operating Room.
• Sorts, assembles, and sterilizes items according to departmental policies.
• Operates and loads sterilizers (Steam, ETO, Sterrad, Steris) and performs related testing (biological tests, Bowie Dick tests).
• Completes sterilization records accurately.
• Prepares case carts using doctors’ preference lists; communicates shortages with nursing team and coordinator.
• Lifts a minimum of 50 lbs., pushes/pulls a minimum of 60 lbs., and stands for entire shift.
• Adheres to Universal Precautions and proper use of PPE.
• Uses computerized instrument count sheets and monitors printouts for accuracy.
• Complies with organizational competencies and safety standards.

Required Skills & Experience

• Central Processing Course or 1 year experience in instrument processing – Required.
• Must be able to work every other weekend – Required.
• Must work three (3) out of six (6) holidays – Required.
• Must be available for rotating schedule/shifts based on needs – Required.
• Minimum 5 years of experience – Required.

Education:

• High school diploma or equivalent – Required.

Licensure & Certifications:

• National Certification: CRCST or CBSPDT – Required.
