Job Description

Job Summary:

  • The Cat Scan Technologist performs computer tomography procedures and related techniques, producing sectional and three-dimensional images for the interpretation and assists with interventional and therapeutic procedures.

Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Performs complex CT procedures.
  • Uses professional judgment when reviewing and obtaining patient’s clinical history for procedures, ensuring information is documented and scanned into PACS.
  • Prepares, screens and reviews the accuracy of the contrast questionnaire with patient and/or family member and scans into EPIC.
  • Identifies and/or administers contrast media related to CT exams as prescribed by a licensed practitioner.
  • Reviews the patient prescription to verify appropriateness of exam and communicates with the Radiologist and Referring Physician to obtain additional clinical information or a new prescription.
  • Responsible for calling physicians to clarify the prescription in accordance with appropriate CT protocols.
  • Responsible for verifying insurance authorized exam script and sending exam modification forms to Finance for insurance re-verification.
  • Obtains outside studies (CD) and schedules them in EPIC so the CD and reports are available in PACS for Radiologist comparison.
  • Provides exam copies to the patient, requesting physician, and/or family member.
  • Evaluates radiographs using PACS to ensure proper identification and diagnostic quality.
  • Determines whether the patient has been appropriately prepared for the procedure.
  • Prepares patient for scanning including shielding and immobilization devices.
  • Determines appropriate type and dose of contrast to be administered.
  • Performs venipuncture, IV patency, and maintenance procedures according to established guidelines.
  • Monitors the patient’s physical condition for any adverse reactions during the procedure.
  • Works scheduled shifts including holidays and weekends; overtime as needed.
  • Adheres to employee ID policy, standards of behavior, attendance, and punctuality.
  • Meets physical requirements including lifting, pushing, pulling, and standing.
  • Identifies patient population needs and delivers care specific to those needs, communicating appropriately with patients and caregivers.
  • Adheres to client organizational competencies and standards of behavior.

Required Education:

  • Graduate of a Radiologic Technologist program.
  • High School diploma or equivalent.

Required Certifications & Licensure:

  • NJ DEP Diagnostic Radiography License.
  • ARRT Certified R.T.(R) license.
  • American Heart Association Basic Life Support (BLS) Certification.

Preferred Certifications & Licensure:

  • ARRT certified R.T. (CT) license preferred

Required Skills & Experience:

  • Knowledge of anatomy and physiology and radiological positioning of the human body.
  • Understanding mechanical attributes of CT software and hardware.
  • Thorough knowledge of PACS system.
  • Maintains CEU Credits.
  • Team members must achieve ARRT (CT) certification within the twelve months following their hire date.
  • American Heart Association Basic Life Support (BLS) Certification within following three months of hire date.

Preferred Skills & Experience:

  • Six months CT experience preferred.
  • Knowledge of Epic and any HIS/RIS system added by the hospital.
