Job Description
Duties & Responsibilities:
- Follow policies for standardization of set-ups and surgeon preference; organize instrumentation before returning to decontamination.
- Maintain counts of sponges, needles, instruments; administer and label medications per policy.
- Handle specimens per OR Policies & Procedures.
- Ensure contamination control, decontamination, disinfection, sterilization, and sanitation of instruments and equipment.
- Remove used equipment and dispose of contaminated needles/syringes appropriately.
- Participate in team conferences to plan and evaluate patient care; assist circulator with revising care plans.
- Maintain Surgical Technologist skills checklist across specialty areas.
- Meet physical demands: lift minimum 50 lbs., push/pull 400 lbs., stand for full shift.
- Identify patient needs (age, culture, language, impairments, etc.) and adjust care accordingly.
- Communicate effectively with patients and caregivers at their appropriate level.
- Adhere to the Medical Center’s Organizational Competencies.
Required Education:
- Graduate of an accredited Surgical Technologist Program or appropriate training program.
Preferred Certifications / Licensure:
- Professional certification by AST.
Required Skills & Experience:
- Minimum 2–3 years of Surgical Technician experience.
- Prior Endoscopy experience required.
- Experience with Bronchoscopy, ERCP, EUS, scope processing, and endoscopic procedures.
