Job Description
Job Summary:
- Responsible for the decontamination, cleaning, inspection, assembly, packaging, and sterilization of surgical instruments and equipment in accordance with department policies and infection control standards.
Job Duties & Responsibilities:
- Clean, disinfect, and decontaminate surgical instruments and equipment according to established procedures.
- Inspect instruments for cleanliness, functionality, and integrity before assembly.
- Sort, assemble, wrap, and package instruments according to instrument cards and sterilization requirements.
- Maintain accurate sterilization and instrument tracking documentation.
- Ensure instruments, equipment, and supplies remain sterile and properly handled.
- Maintain an organized and clean decontamination and assembly area.
- Monitor supply usage and request supplies as needed.
- Operate sterile processing equipment and adapt to new technologies and procedures.
- Follow all department policies, safety procedures, and infection control standards.
- Maintain patient confidentiality and protect personal health information.
- Participate in department meetings, activities, and assigned projects.
- Support and mentor new employees as needed.
Required Skills :
- Strong knowledge of sterile processing and infection control practices.
- Ability to work accurately and efficiently in a fast-paced environment.
- Proficiency with sterile processing equipment and instrumentation.
- Strong organizational, communication, and teamwork skills.
- Ability to adapt to changing priorities and new technologies.
Certifications & Licensure:
- Clinical – Allied – Travel Required.
- Certification as a Registered Certified Central Services Technician or must obtain within one year of hire.
- Ability to work well with children and adults; interest in working with children and adolescents with disabilities.
- Physically able to work hours required and lift heavy instrument sets, hours include off premise call.
- Customer service focused Preferred.
- At least one year of prior experience as a central services technician.
- Knowledge of the principles of decontamination/sterilization.
- Must have Certified Central Services Technician Registration to be considered for this role.
