Certified Surgical Technician

Job Description

Job Summary:

• The Certified Surgical Technologist (CST) performs a variety of technical duties to assist with the preparation and care of pre-operative patients and supports the surgical team throughout procedures.
• The CST is responsible for maintaining a sterile environment, preparing surgical instruments and supplies, and assisting with the safe and efficient operation of the surgical room.

Duties and Responsibilities:

• Prepare operating rooms, surgical instruments, equipment, and supplies for procedures.
• Assist surgeons and surgical staff during procedures.
• Maintain strict sterile technique and infection-control standards.
• Anticipate the needs of the surgical team and ensure necessary instruments and supplies are available.
• Perform surgical counts and maintain accurate documentation.
• Assist with pre-operative patient preparation and post-procedure room turnover.
• Follow hospital policies, safety procedures, and applicable regulatory standards.
• Work effectively with surgeons, nurses, anesthesia staff, and other members of the surgical team.

Required Education:

• Graduate of a formal Surgical Technician program.

Required Certification & Licensure:

• BLS Certification as a Surgical Technician through one of the following:
• NBSTA – Certified Surgical Technologist -NCCT – Tech in Surgery- Certified (TS-C)

Skills & Experience:

• At least 3 years of surgical technologist experience; 5+ years preferred.
• Strong scrub experience, particularly in Neuro and other surgical specialties.
• Ability to work independently while effectively collaborating with the surgical team.
