Job Description
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Perform initial-response screening following provider-approved protocols.
- Escort patients to exam rooms and prepare them for examination, procedures, and treatment.
- Obtain and record vital signs in the Electronic Health Record (EHR).
- Collect and document patient history using critical thinking skills.
- Prepare, set up, and assist with examinations, procedures, and treatments per protocols.
- Administer and document medications and immunizations following the six rights.
- Document all care provided during patient visits in the EHR.
- Recognize and respond to medical emergencies.
- Monitor and respond to patient communications (calls, messages, MyChart) in a timely manner.
- Enter medication, lab, and radiology orders for provider sign-off.
- Provide discharge instructions to patients and caregivers.
- Process medication refills per protocol.
- Collect and process specimens; perform CLIA-waived tests.
- Conduct EKGs, respiratory, and other diagnostic testing.
- Perform phlebotomy (venipuncture and capillary puncture).
- Act as a liaison between patients and medical staff.
- Schedule appointments and outpatient procedures.
- Handle insurance pre-authorizations and referrals.
- Participate in quality improvement programs.
- Follow standard precautions and infection control procedures.
- Maintain equipment, instruments, and exam rooms.
- Ensure compliance with safety and regulatory standards.
- Educate patients on health maintenance, disease prevention, and treatment plans.
- Identify community resources for patient support.
- Support organizational mission, vision, and policies.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Requirements:
One of the following:
- Graduate of a Medical Assistant program with a clinical externship (minimum 160 hours), OR
- Graduate of a Medical Assistant program without externship + 1 year of recent experience, OR
- Certified Medical Assistant with 5+ years of clinical experience, OR
- Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN), OR
- Licensed Paramedic/EMT with at least 1 year of clinical experience (within last 5 years), OR
- Military-trained medical personnel with at least 1 year of recent clinical experience
- Basic computer and keyboarding skills.
- Strong clinical skills in ambulatory care.
- Problem-solving ability.
- Effective communication and interpersonal skills.
- Experience with EPIC (Electronic Medical Records).
Additional Requirements:
- BLS Certification (required)
- EPIC EMR experience
- Phlebotomy experience
- Candidates must meet one of the following:
- MA program graduate with externship + 2+ years MA experience.
- MA program graduate without externship + 2+ years recent MA experience.
- Certified MA with 5+ years experience.
- LPN with 2+ years MA experience.
- EMT/Paramedic with 1+ year clinical experience + 2+ years MA experience.
- Military-trained personnel with 1+ year clinical experience + 2+ years MA experience.
