Job Summary:
- Under the direction of the Registered Nurse and surgical team, the Surgical Technologist prepares and maintains the operating room, instruments, supplies, and equipment for surgical procedures.
- Anticipates the needs of the surgical team and supports safe, efficient, and high-quality patient care throughout the procedure.
Job Duties & Responsibilities:
- Scrub for general surgical procedures and assist the surgical team as needed.
- Prepare the OR, including instruments, equipment, supplies, and surgical tables.
- Verify proper functioning of instruments and equipment and report repairs as needed.
- Follow infection control, safety, quality, and departmental policies.
- Maintain sterile technique and handle instruments and supplies appropriately.
- Respond to emergency situations according to established procedures.
- Maintain clean, safe, and organized operating rooms.
- Assist with patient admission, transfer, and discharge processes.
- Support pre-operative patients while maintaining privacy and comfort.
- Manage supplies and assist leadership with maintaining appropriate inventory levels.
- Participate in audits, education, training, and department improvement initiatives.
- May train or precept new Surgical Technologists within the assigned specialty.
Required Skills Education & Certification:
- Minimum 1 year of Surgical Technologist experience.
- BLS Certification through AHA required.
- High School Diploma or GED equivalent.
- Previous experience in Neuro (Spine & Brain) OR Total Joints required.
- Ability to lift/move patients, case carts, instruments, and equipment.
- Ability to stand and walk for extended periods.
Assignment Notes:
- RTO: Maximum of 5 days for the entire contract; preferably non-consecutive.
- Must be comfortable working in a patient-care environment with potential exposure to communicable diseases, hazardous gases, and other clinical conditions.
