Job Description

Job Summary:

• Applies scientific knowledge/therapy to practical clinical problems of respiratory care.
• As a team member in delivery of respiratory services, and under medical direction, performs a wide range of procedures related to the care of patients with general and specialized respiratory-related needs, including those in the Pediatric areas.

Duties and Responsibilities:

• Performs evaluation to determine respiratory care needs, and makes appropriate recommendations and changes in accordance with policy and protocol guidelines.
• Assesses effectiveness of treatment and accurately documents according to department and legal/regulatory standards.
• Completes and documents required education and competencies within designated timeframe.
• Maintains competency in areas of accountability.
• Accurate and timely completion of all necessary documentation and billing.
• Facilitates a smooth transition for the patient to appropriate referral services / the next point of service / home and provides education to patients and families as it relates to respiratory issues.
• Instructs and trains other respiratory care staff, nursing and other medical personnel and students regarding patient needs and respiratory care services.
• Actively participates in safety initiatives and risk mitigating measures where appropriate and completes all position and unit safety related competencies and requirements on a timely basis.
• Performs other duties as assigned.

Education:

• Associate’s Degree – Respiratory Therapy Required.
• Bachelor’s Degree – Respiratory Therapy Preferred.

Licenses and Certifications:

• LIC -Respiratory Therapist – STATE_MI State of Michigan Upon Hire Required.
• CRT-Respiratory Therapist Certification – NBRC National Board for Respiratory Care Upon Hire Or CRT-Respiratory Therapist Registry – NBRC National Board for Respiratory Care.
• Excludes RTs in CHW regional hospitals and ambulatory locations with at least 10 years of RT licensure 1 Year Required.
• CRT-Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP) – AHA American Heart Association Regional Hospitals and NICU 90 Days Required.
• CRT-Adv Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) – AHA American Heart Association Cardiac and Pulmonary Rehab 90 Days Required.
• CRT-Basic Life Support (BLS) – AHA American Heart Association 90 Days Required Or CRT-Basic Life Support (BLS) – client 90 Days Required.
