Job Summary:
- Under the direction and supervision of the Registered Nurse and surgical team, the Surgical Technologist is responsible for handling surgical instruments, supplies, and equipment for general to moderately complex procedures.
- This role requires anticipating the needs of the surgeon and team, ensuring readiness for procedures, and supporting patient care, safety, and comfort throughout the perioperative process.
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Prepare and maintain the operating room, including instruments, equipment, and sterile supplies.
- Anticipate the needs of the surgeon and surgical team during procedures.
- Ensure proper functioning of surgical instruments and equipment; report issues as needed.
- Assist with patient preparation, transport, positioning, and pre-operative care.
- Maintain a clean, safe, and organized operating room environment.
- Follow all safety, infection control, and departmental policies and procedures.
- Respond effectively to emergency situations.
- Support patient comfort, privacy, and safety at all times.
- Collaborate with surgical team members to ensure high-quality patient care.
- Participate in audits, training, and continuous improvement initiatives.
- Train and precept new staff and students as assigned.
- Complete required education and participate in ongoing learning programs.
- Perform additional duties as assigned.
Advanced Surgical Responsibilities:
- Scrub and assist in complex surgical procedures, including:Liver and multi-visceral organ transplants
- Endovascular valve replacement and aneurysm repair (TEVAR, FEVAR)
- Cardiac surgical procedures
- Procedures involving cardiopulmonary bypass
- HIPEC procedures
- Apply advanced surgical techniques and critical thinking in perioperative care.
Education & Experience:
- High school diploma or GED required.
- Graduate of an accredited Surgical Technology program.
- Strong knowledge of operating room procedures, techniques, and patient care.
Certifications:
- BLS certification (required or must obtain within 1 month of start date).
- Surgical Technologist certification OR 3–5 years of experience supporting complex, high-acuity surgical cases.
