Job Description
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Perform initial patient screening following provider-approved protocols.
- Escort and prepare patients for exams, procedures, and treatments.
- Obtain vital signs, patient history, and document in EHR.
- Assist with examinations, procedures, and treatments.
- Administer and document medications and immunizations as ordered.
- Respond to patient requests via phone, MyChart, and in-basket messages.
- Enter medication, lab, radiology, refill, and referral orders for provider sign-off.
- Collect and process specimens; perform CLIA-waived testing.
- Perform EKGs, respiratory testing, and phlebotomy procedures.
- Provide discharge instructions and patient education.
- Schedule appointments and outpatient procedures.
- Obtain insurance pre-authorizations and apply managed care guidelines.
- Maintain exam rooms, supplies, and equipment.
- Follow infection control, sterile technique, and safety standards.
- Participate in quality improvement initiatives.
- Support patient care advocacy and maintain regulatory compliance.
- Perform additional duties within Product of practice as assigned.
Required Qualifications:
- Graduate of a Medical Assistant program with completion of a formal clinical externship (160 hour minimum).
- Graduate from a Medical Assistant program without completion of a clinical externship but with a minimum one-year experience in clinical medical assisting within the past five (5) years.
- Current Professionally Recognized Medical Assistant Certification with a minimum of five (5) years of experience in clinical medical assisting.
- Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN).
- Licensed Paramedic/Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) with at least one-year clinical experience in clinical medical setting within the past five (5) years.
- Military trained medical personnel with at least one-year clinical experience in clinical medical setting within the past five (5) years.
Preferred Qualifications:
- EPIC EMR experience.
- Basic computer and keyboarding skills.
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
- Problem-solving ability.
- Experience performing a wide range of ambulatory clinical skills.
