Job Description
Job Summary:
- Provides diagnostic and therapeutic nuclear medicine procedures for both inpatients and outpatients through the administration of radiopharmaceuticals and the safe operation of various types of imaging counting and computer equipment.
- Maintains accurate records of radioactive materials from receipt through administration and disposal
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Performs duties directly involved in a variety of technical procedures in the application of
radionuclides for the diagnosis, therapy and treatment of disease. - Operates gamma camera / computer imaging systems, planar and SPECT and non-imaging equipment, producing quality diagnostic images and results for interpretation by a radiologist / nuclear medicine physician.
- Practices all rules and regulations pertaining to radiation safety, reducing personal and patient exposure to āas low as reasonably achievableā (ALARA).
- Processes radiopharmaceuticals from receipt and preparation through administration and
disposal in a safe and efficient manner. - Prepares patient for exam.
- Provides information and instruction to patient and/or family regarding the procedure and responds to their physical and emotional needs.
- Assists the patient during exam and positions the patient.
- Observes patient and equipment during the procedure and reports / documents unusual occurrences and records patientās condition.
- Facilitates smooth patient flow, scheduling and optimal use of equipment/resources.
- Communicates in writing and verbally with all physicians, imaging personnel, students and hospital staff in facilitating the continuum of care.
- Assists with patient transport as needed.
- Performs IV starts and contrast administration as required.
- As assigned by management, performs technologist duties of other registered modality.
- Ability to provide on-call coverage outside of standard scheduled hours per department and/or facility policy.
- Correctly inputs charges and required data for procedures and for supplies utilized during the
procedure/exam.
Education, Experience and Certifications/ License:
- High School Diploma/GED- Required.
- Associateās Degree- Strongly Preferred Bachelorās Degree- Preferred.
- RT (N): Registered Technologist, Radiology, Nuclear Medicine – R.T. (N)(ARRT) or Nuclear Medicine Technology Certification Board (NMTCB) ā Required.
- BLS (AHA)- Required Positron Emission Tomography Registry- Preferred, if applicable to entity Licensed Radiology Technologist- Required for those working at a Kansas site.
- One year of nuclear medicine experience strongly preferred. Cardiac Nuclear Medicine registration preferred.
Float Requirements:
- Floating may be required to any client location within sixty (60) miles of the original assignment location or client-identified āfloat zoneā.
- Float assignments may include duties outside of original assignment job requirements (including skill set) in accordance with client policy.
