Job Description

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Under supervision, prepares patient and equipment and performs EEG and evoked potentials examinations.
  • Instructs and prepares patients and equipment for tests.
  • Performs EEG and Evoked Potential testing on patients of all ages in the EEG Department or at the patient’s bedside.
  • Determines and selects recording parameters based on each patient’s diagnosis or complaint.
  • Takes recording, analyzes data, and, with assistance, prepares results for physician.
  • Studies wave characteristics during test to detect evidence of brain disorders.
  • Completes checklists, writes clear narratives and/or enters data into computer files as appropriate.
  • Completes transcription and accurately processes physician orders according to policy.
  • Performs routine maintenance on equipment.
  • Promotes mission, vision, and values of SCL Health, and abides by service behavior standards.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
  • May be required to float to other departments (within Product of competency and qualifications) based on business need.
  • May be required to be placed on-call during a regularly scheduled shift.

Required Education:

  • High School diploma or GED is required.

Preferred Education:

  • Graduate of an accredited EEG or END program with 1 year experience as an EEG technician.

Required Certifications & Licensure:

  • Board of Registered EEG Technologist (ABRET).
  • The Certified EEG Technician (CET) registry is required.
  • BLS – American Heart Association.

Required Skills & Experience:

  • 2 years prior experience as an EEG technician.
  • Regular attendance to perform work on site during regularly scheduled business hours or scheduled shifts is required.
  • Ability to work nights and/or weekends is required for identified positions.
  • Minimum of 1 year experience is required.
