Job Description

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Continually monitors patients on telemetry by interpreting and recording ECG rhythms and reporting pertinent changes to appropriate personnel.
  • Responsible for accuracy of reports and error reconciliation.
  • Troubleshoots equipment problems and communicates needs to leader.
  • Assumes personal accountability for organizational mission and core values.
  • Demonstrate working knowledge of telemetry monitoring system.

Observation & Documentation Duties:

  • Responsible for observation and documentation of patient’s cardiac rhythm: every shift, when an arrhythmia occurs, and on each new patient as they are placed on telemetry.
  • RN to co-sign patient’s documented rhythm.
  • Recognizes and notifies RN immediately when life threatening arrhythmia occurs.
  • Promptly responds to all monitor alarms according to department/hospital policy.
  • Documents all communication to care givers.
  • Documents rhythms strips according to department/hospital policy.
  • Maintains patient EKG records in systematic organized fashion.
  • Files EKG reports into charts as needed.
  • Documents reason when patient is temporarily or permanently removed from telemetry and if/when monitoring resumes.
  • Maintains thorough and confidential maintenance of patient charts and records.
  • Ensures central monitor is never left unattended.
  • Ensures all patients on telemetry are connected to central monitor and alarms are appropriately set.

Equipment & Inventory Responsibilities:

  • Maintains inventory and replacement of telemetry supplies.
  • Assures that all transmitter inventory is accounted for each shift.
  • Cleans transmitter after each patient use.
  • Helps to maintain equipment in good working order.
  • Notifies biomed of malfunctioning equipment.

Performance & Professionalism:

  • Effectively uses time, personnel, equipment and supplies to provide high quality, cost effective delivery of patient EKG monitoring.
  • Serves as a patient advocate.
  • Uses standards of care, hospital policies/procedures and regulatory guidelines to guide work.
  • Demonstrates ethical, legal, and professional behavior.
  • Communicates in a clear, courteous manner with patients, families, visitors, coworkers, physicians and other departments.

Additional Duties:

  • Assists with quality improvement, safety and regulatory functions as directed.
  • Participates in process change to improve practice.
  • Assists in training other Telemetry Techs, students and other hospital personnel.
  • Adapts to rapidly changing technology as evidenced by competency in technology and equipment used in the patient care setting.
  • Demonstrates effective time management and is proactive in prioritizing workload and meeting productivity requirements.

Qualifications:

  • One year of acute care experience preferred.
  • Telemetry experience preferred.
  • Ability to read, write, speak, and understand English.
  • Good verbal and written skills.
  • Basic clerical, computer data entry and math skills.

Float Requirements:

  • Floating may be required to any CommonSpirit location within sixty (60) miles of the original assignment location or CommonSpirit-identified “float zone”.
  • Float assignments may include duties outside of original assignment job requirements (including skill set) in accordance with CommonSpirit policy.
