Job Description
Roles and Responsibilities:
- Provides specialized cardiovascular care, while maintaining maximum patient safety and comfort.
- Performs/reviews a baseline patient assessment, and evaluates patient response to diagnostic cardiac procedures.
- Proficient in the operation and maintenance, as specified by the manufacturer, of all diagnostic and therapeutic equipment used for procedures in the specific area of operation.
- Performs accurate and thorough echocardiograms as ordered by physician.
- Performs specialized testing using computer assisted devices including, but not limited to TEE, Stress Echo, Pharmacological Stress Echo’s. Cross trained to perform EKG’s, Treadmills, and Holter monitors as needed.
- Maintains and reviews equipment, ensuring proper function and calibration of machines.
- Maintains high skill level through participation in CQI, in services, ongoing education, and attendance at 80% of staff meetings. Ability to provide on-call coverage outside of standard scheduled hours per department and/or facility policy.
- Recognizes and promptly acts upon unusual results or patient response by informing primary health care team to ensure patient safety and foster optimal outcomes.
- Must be able to deal with many different personality types, ages and levels of consciousness of patients.
- Must be able to adjust approach based on patient/family level of understanding of test procedure.
- Promptly trouble-shoots and corrects recording instrument malfunction or unusual patient problems that interfere with recordings.
- Independently prioritizes clinical and administrative work and identifies process improvements.
- Process patient and department records ensuring documentations of performed tests in accordance with hospital standards.
Requirement:
- One year of experience in cardiac ultrasound (echocardiography), preferred
- High School Diploma/G.E.D.- Required.
- Graduate of a diploma, associate, or baccalaureate academic program in health science (including, but not limited to, cardiovascular technology, ultrasound, radiologic technology, respiratory therapy, or nursing) or graduate of a programmatically accredited program in cardiac ultrasound (echocardiography) strongly preferred.
- BLS (AHA) – Required.
- Currently registered as American Registry for Diagnostic Medical Sonographers as a Registered Diagnostic Cardiac Sonographer (RDCS) or via CCI as a Registered Cardiac Sonographer (RCS)- Required.
