Job Description

Job Description: 

  • Working under the direction of the Registered Nurse, the OB Tech assists in patient care activities, maintains department stock, and performs surgical technician duties in the scrub role.
  • Should be able to demonstrate the knowledge and skills necessary to provide care appropriate to the age of the patients served on his/her unit.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Duties:

  • Scrubs for cesarean section surgical procedures. Assists with vaginal deliveries and or surgical repair of episiotomies.
  • Identifies patient needs/physician preferences for surgical supplies/equipment/instruments.
  • Performs shift specific assignments according to the OB Tech responsibility sheet.
  • Maintains the principles of aseptic technique in preparing for vaginal/surgical deliveries
  • Performs technical skills in accordance with policy and procedure.
  • Inventories and stocks department supplies and equipment.
  • Coordinates with Surgical Sterile Processing Department and Materials Management to order and distribute supplies and reconcile patient charges.
  • Utilizes positive communication skills to effect conflict resolution and teamwork.
  • Contributes to cost effective patient care by monitoring use of time, equipment, and supplies.
  • Complies with safety policies and procedures in order to provide a safe environment for employees, patients, and visitors.
  • Demonstrates necessary flexibility in regards to changes in Hospital or Department activities.
  • Completes C-Section charges in the computer correctly and within department guidelines.
  • Demonstrate the knowledge and skills necessary to provide care appropriate to the age of the patients served on his/her unit.
  • Actively participates in achieving departmental goals.

Education: 

  • Minimum High School Diploma
  • Completion of Surgical Scrub Technician program – Preferred not required

Experience: 

  • Two (2) year experience as a Scrub Technician in comparable job setting within the last 5 years preferred or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

Certifications & Licenses: 

  • High school education or GED – Required
  • Current BLS/Healthcare Provider status as per American Heart Association standards – Required
  • Completion of Surgical Scrub Technician program – Preferred not required
  • The positon is a dual job working in MB and LD
