Job Summary:
- Work under the supervision of the Lead Technologist Assistant.
- Under general supervision, contributes to the quality of patient diagnosis and treatment by timely and accurate collection and processing of physician ordered tests.
- Should be able to demonstrate the knowledge and skills necessary to provide care appropriate to the age of the patients served.
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Perform other duties as assigned.
- Specimens are collected in the appropriate containers, centrifuged and stored according to Laboratory procedure to ensure sample integrity.
- Venipuncture and capillary collections are performed so as to minimize discomfort, bruising, redraws and trauma.
- Employee consistently complies with the Laboratory and Hospital Policies and Procedures by:
- Laboratory Technologist Assistant Properly disposing of contaminated needles and supplies.
- Decontaminating the work area.
- Utilizing proper protective equipment (gloves, masks, gowns, glasses, protective shields.)
- Helps provide an organized and efficient Laboratory operation, by utilizing the Laboratory computer to edit, inquiry, receive and print test requests.
Education and Certification/ License:
- Work requires knowledge generally acquired through a high school education or GED.
- California State Phlebotomy Certification is required.
- (CPT) Current BLS/Healthcare Provider status as per American Heart Association standards preferred.
Experience:
- Two years experience working in an acute care setting as a phlebotomist preferred.
- Manager looking for Hospital experience.
- Traveler needs experience with children and infants.
- Epic Experience: 6–12 months within the past year.
