Job Description

Job Summary:

  • The Orthopedic Clinical Assistant supports orthopedic physicians and physician assistants with direct patient care and clinical operations.
  • Responsibilities include casting, splinting, assisting with procedures, patient intake, charting, and ensuring efficient patient flow within the clinic.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Assist orthopedic providers with patient care, including application and removal of casts, splints, braces, and external fixators for patients of all ages.
  • Prepare exam and treatment rooms; maintain a clean, organized, and well-stocked clinical environment.
  • Anticipate provider needs during procedures and ensure appropriate supplies and instruments are available.
  • Conduct patient intake: obtain medical history, vital signs, and document in the electronic medical record (EMR).
  • Perform basic clinical tasks such as dressing changes, suture or staple removal, and post-procedure care.
  • Assist with scheduling tests, procedures, and surgeries; collect and process documentation, orders, and consents.
  • Support durable medical equipment (DME) processes when the DME Coordinator is unavailable.

Education:

  • High school diploma, GED or higher level degree if hired after March 1, 2025.

Licensure/Certification:

  • Orthopedic Tech Certification.
  • American Heart Association BLS.

Experience:

  • Orthopedic experience.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Strong critical thinking and organizational skills.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication.
  • Ability to prioritize tasks and manage time effectively.
  • Proficient with general office and medical equipment (computer, scanner, phone, EMR systems).
  • Professional and positive demeanor in all patient interactions.
