Job Description
Job Summary:
- Clinical/Medical Assistant will support the clinic patient care team with both clinical and administrative responsibilities.
- Duties include patient check-in/check-out, scheduling, insurance and referral authorization processes, vital signs, injections, venipuncture, specimen collection, routine diagnostic tests, assisting with examinations and procedures, maintaining patient documentation, preparing examination rooms, and maintaining clinical supplies.
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Obtain and document patient vital signs and prepare patients for examinations.
- Perform routine screening and diagnostic tests.
- Assist physicians with procedures, examinations and procedure set-ups.
- Administer medications through intradermal, subcutaneous and intramuscular injections under appropriate authorization and supervision.
- Perform skin tests and venipunctures.
- Collect and send specimens to appropriate laboratories.
- Apply/remove bandages and dressings, remove sutures/casts, perform wound care and ear lavage.
- Document clinical information, patient calls, concerns, symptoms and reactions.
- Prepare examination equipment and supplies.
- Maintain clean, organized examination rooms and replenish supplies.
- Schedule and maintain patient appointments.
- Collect and enter patient demographic and insurance information.
- Complete required verifications and authorizations before provider visits.
- Process prescription refill requests according to established procedures.
Education:
- High School Diploma or GED.
- Completion of a recognized Medical Assistant training program.
Licensure & Certifications:
- Current AHA BLS certification.
Required Skills & Experience:
- Minimum 1 year of progressively responsible and directly related work experience.
- Standard clinical procedures according to established protocols.
- Patient/family education regarding disease, care and treatment.
- Computer systems and software used in the functional area.
- Strong communication and customer service skills.
- Ability to work independently, organize/prioritize tasks and meet deadlines.
