Job Summary:
- Under administrative direction, the Lead CLS oversees laboratory operations and personnel, serving as lead technologist for assigned sections.
- This role ensures the delivery of high-quality laboratory testing services, with a focus on Microbiology, and requires independent decision-making and broad technical oversight.
- The Lead CLS supports both daily operations and long-term performance standards in accordance with clinical and regulatory guidelines.
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Provide technical and administrative leadership for lab staff and operations.
- Ensure quality control, regulatory compliance, and accurate diagnostic testing.
- Perform complex analyses, particularly in Microbiology, and troubleshoot lab issues.
- Oversee testing in Blood Bank, Urinalysis (UA), CBC, and i-STAT.
- Monitor workload, optimize workflows, and support accreditation readiness.
- Support training, competency assessment, and scheduling of lab personnel.
- Maintain current documentation, policies, and procedures in line with state and federal regulations.
Education & Certifications/ License:
- Bachelor’s Degree (B.S. or equivalent) in Medical Technology or related clinical field.
- ASCP Certification (American Society for Clinical Pathology).
- California Clinical Laboratory Scientist (CLS) License.
- BLS Certification (American Heart Association only).
Experience, Knowledge and Skills:
- Minimum 5 years of supervisory experience in a clinical laboratory setting.
- Strong working knowledge of Blood Bank, Urinalysis, CBC, and i-STAT procedures.
- Demonstrated ability to lead, mentor, and manage laboratory staff in a hospital environment.
