Job Description

Job Summary:

  • The Sterile Processing Coordinator is responsible for overseeing daily sterile processing operations to ensure safe, efficient, and compliant workflows.
  • This role provides leadership to a team of sterile processing technicians, ensuring surgical instruments and equipment are cleaned, assembled, sterilized, and distributed in accordance with industry standards, regulatory requirements, and hospital policies.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Supervise sterile processing technicians and coordinate shift assignments for adequate coverage.
  • Monitor decontamination, assembly, sterilization, and distribution processes.
  • Ensure compliance with ANSI/AAMI standards, IFUs, OSHA regulations, and internal SOPs.
  • Conduct and review quality assurance audits, ensuring accurate documentation.
  • Train, mentor, and support sterile processing staff in professional development.
  • Oversee equipment maintenance, calibration, and troubleshooting with maintenance teams.
  • Collaborate with leadership on scheduling, timekeeping, and departmental goals.
  • Partner with surgical and clinical teams to ensure timely availability of sterile instruments.
  • Promote safety, infection control, and regulatory compliance across all operations.
  • Provide customer service support and resolve concerns effectively.
  • Assist in supply management, including inventory tracking and reorder processes.
  • Support continuous quality improvement initiatives and monitor departmental KPIs.
  • Directly supervise sterile processing staff during assigned shift.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned by leadership.

Education and Experience:

  • Required: High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Preferred: College degree or 3+ years of leadership experience.
  • Minimum of 3 years of sterile processing experience.
  • At least 2 years in a supervisory or leadership role (healthcare or manufacturing preferred).

Certifications & Licensure:

  • Required: CRCST (Certified Registered Central Service Technician).
  • Preferred: CIS (Certified Instrument Specialist) and/or HSPA-CHL (Certified Healthcare Leader).

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Strong leadership, organizational, and communication skills.
  • Solid knowledge of sterilization standards, infection control, and regulatory guidelines.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.
  • Familiarity with surgical instruments and reprocessing practices.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel) and timekeeping systems.
  • Team-oriented with proven ability to motivate and support staff.
