Job Description
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Assist physicians with the examination and treatment of patients.
- Maintain patient flow throughout clinic hours.
- Document review of systems, vital signs, medical history, medications, and patient information in the EMR.
- Prepare and maintain patient charts by scanning, abstracting, and reviewing medical records and diagnostic results.
- Obtain records and information from outside facilities as needed.
- Assist with medication refills and prior authorizations, including communication with patients, pharmacies, and insurance companies.
- Maintain records of patient samples and medications and dispose of expired medications.
- Prepare and maintain clean, fully stocked examination rooms.
- Order medical supplies and complete patient assistance paperwork.
- Obtain pertinent patient information to support clinical decision-making.
- Manage phone calls, MyChart messages, work queues, and daily workflow logs.
- Schedule appointments and check patients in and out.
- Complete pre-certifications for prescriptions, procedures, and surgeries.
- Perform EKGs, operate cardiac monitors, and perform other routine diagnostic tests.
- Administer vaccinations and perform phlebotomy and other clinical duties as assigned.
- Maintain patient confidentiality and comply with legal, safety, quality, and patient-experience standards.
- May assist with training new employees.
Requirements:
- At least 1 year of Medical Assistant experience in a primary care office.
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Graduate of a Medical Assistant program.
- BLS certification required.
- Excellent computer skills, including Microsoft Outlook, Excel, EMR, and scheduling systems.
- Strong verbal and interpersonal communication skills.
- Ability to work respectfully with patients, physicians, visitors, coworkers, and other healthcare personnel.
- Ability and willingness to travel to other physician offices as needed.
Preferences:
- Pediatric experience preferred.
- 2–5 years of Medical Assistant or related experience.
- Associate degree preferred.
- Certified or Registered Medical Assistant credential preferred.
- Experience in multiple care settings, such as primary care, specialty care, or EMT.
- Additional clinical skills such as phlebotomy, EKGs, suture removal, and splinting.
