Job Description

Duties and Responsibilities:

• Perform diagnostic and therapeutic respiratory care procedures for neonatal, pediatric, and adult patients.
• Assist with orientation and training of Level I/II respiratory therapists and students.
• Perform intra-hospital patient transports using mechanical ventilators and airway protection equipment, including safe operation in MRI.
• Administer specialty gases including Nitric Oxide, Nitrogen, Heliox, and other gases.
• Initiate and maintain pulmonary vasodilator therapy.
• Complete orientations in intensive care units and acute care areas.
• Evaluate the appropriateness of medical orders.
• Participate in clinical rounds with physicians, nurses, and other healthcare providers.
• Respond to respiratory care consults in the Emergency Department.
• Educate patients, families, and healthcare team members.
• Interpret clinical data and adjust respiratory interventions to optimize patient outcomes.
• Respond to emergencies throughout service areas as a member of the Code/Rapid Response Team.
• Perform all essential functions expected of a Respiratory Care Practitioner Level I.

Required Education:  

• Completion of a CoARC Commission on Accredited Respiratory Care approved respiratory care program.

Required Certifications & Licensure:

• BLS – Certified in Basic Life Support from the American Heart Association.
• ACLS – Advanced Cardiac Life Support.
• NRP – Neonatal Resuscitation Program.
• PALS – Pediatric Advanced Live Support.
• RCP – Respiratory Therapy License from the State of California.
• RRT – Registered Respiratory Therapist.

Required Experience:

• Minimum 1 year of Neonatal/Pediatric Critical Care experience, including completed Respiratory Care Residency Program time.
• Level III NICU experience.
• Level I Pediatric Trauma experience.
• 3+ years of experience as a Respiratory Care Practitioner in Adult Critical Care.
