Job Summary:
- The Maternal Fetal Medicine Sonographer performs advanced diagnostic ultrasound examinations for high-risk pregnancies under physician supervision.
- The role focuses on fetal development, maternal and fetal anatomy, vascular structures, and specialized maternal-fetal imaging.
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Perform advanced high-risk OB ultrasound examinations, including Level II anatomy scans, fetal echocardiograms, NT/first-trimester screenings, BPPs, growth scans, and fetal growth assessments.
- Perform ClientA Doppler, umbilical vein Doppler, and cervical length evaluations.
- Provide ultrasound guidance for invasive procedures such as amniocentesis.
- Acquire high-quality diagnostic images according to departmental protocols.
- Recognize normal and abnormal findings and communicate relevant observations to the supervising physician.
- Prepare images and examinations for provider review and document findings accurately.
- Prepare and position patients appropriately while maintaining comfort, privacy, and safety.
- Explain procedures and imaging processes to patients, particularly those experiencing high-risk or complex pregnancies.
- Collaborate with maternal-fetal medicine physicians, sonographers, nurses, and other healthcare professionals.
- Participate in case reviews, quality assurance, continuous quality improvement, and educational activities.
- Operate, clean, maintain, and monitor ultrasound equipment; report malfunctions or safety concerns promptly.
- Maintain accurate documentation, logs, charges, and required paperwork.
- Maintain a clean and safe work environment and follow HIPAA, infection control, hospital, departmental, and regulatory requirements.
- Demonstrate professionalism, empathy, effective communication, and respect for patients and families.
- Perform other related duties as assigned.
Required Education & Certifications:
- High School Diploma or GED.
- Completion of an accredited Diagnostic Medical Sonography program.
- ARDMS – OB/GYN
- BLS
Required Experience:
- Minimum 1 year of experience in high-risk obstetric ultrasound in a hospital or Maternal-Fetal Medicine setting.
- Manager specifically requests 1 year of OB/GYN experience.
