Job Description
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Assist physicians with patient examinations and treatment.
- Maintain patient flow and document patient information in the EMR.
- Record vital signs, medical/social/family history, medications, and other clinical information.
- Prepare patient charts by scanning, abstracting, and reviewing medical records and diagnostic results.
- Obtain records and information from outside facilities.
- Process medication refills and prior authorizations.
- Maintain medication samples and supplies.
- Prepare and maintain examination/treatment rooms.
- Obtain patient medical information according to office protocols.
- Respond to patient calls and MyChart messages.
- Manage EMR/practice management work queues and daily workflow logs.
- Answer calls, schedule appointments, check patients in/out, and complete pre-certifications.
- Perform EKGs, use cardiac monitors, administer vaccinations, perform phlebotomy, and assist with cast removal as assigned.
- Maintain patient confidentiality and comply with safety, legal, quality, and patient-experience standards.
- May assist in training new employees or serve as an EMR Super User.
- May travel to other physician offices as needed.
Requirements:
- High School Diploma or equivalent.
- Graduate of an accredited Medical Assistant program.
- BLS certification required.
- Excellent computer skills, including Microsoft Outlook, Excel, EMR, and scheduling systems.
- Strong verbal and interpersonal communication skills.
- Ability and willingness to travel to other physician offices when required.
Preferences:
- 2–5 years of Medical Assistant or related experience.
- Experience in different care settings such as primary care, specialty care, or EMT.
- Associate degree preferred.
- Certified/Registered Medical Assistant certification preferred.
- Additional clinical skills such as phlebotomy, EKGs, suture removal, splinting, and similar procedures.
