Job Description

Job Summary:

  • Under the supervision of the AVP Imaging Services and CT Supervisor, performs patient care and technical duties involved in producing CT images of designated anatomical areas according to established procedures.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Demonstrates competency in performing CT examinations on patients from newborn to geriatric age groups using adult and pediatric protocols.
  • Communicates calmly, compassionately, and professionally with patients, families, and associates.
  • Reviews radiology imaging requisitions for accuracy and contacts appropriate personnel to resolve discrepancies.
  • Properly identifies, prepares, and educates patients prior to examinations.
  • Follows HIPAA standards to maintain patient privacy and confidentiality of protected health information.
  • Applies knowledge of anatomy, physiology, and disease processes to obtain high-quality diagnostic images.
  • Demonstrates proper radiation shielding and protection practices, including documentation for patients of childbearing age.
  • Suggests alternative imaging examinations when appropriate to reduce or eliminate radiation exposure.
  • Applies ALARA principles to ensure radiation safety for patients, self, and associates.
  • Understands and applies Image Wisely and Image Gently programs to reduce radiation dose.
  • Obtains quality diagnostic images after orientation on CT scanners.
  • Uses proper aseptic technique, universal protocol, and standard precautions.
  • Prepares and administers oral and IV contrast media following established protocols.
  • Adheres to all IV contrast administration policies, including screening, hydration, extravasation treatment, and premedication.
  • Trains new personnel on CT scanner operation and related equipment.
  • Monitors CT equipment maintenance and contacts repair services with supervisor approval.
  • Follows PACS workflow procedures to ensure exam accuracy and completeness.
  • Demonstrates competency in RIS applications, including exam tracking and status updates.
  • Coordinates workflow to maximize productivity using LEAN methodology.
  • Maintains department inventory and restocks supplies using the kanban system.
  • Participates in daily huddles, problem-solving activities, and department meetings.
  • Updates patients and families regarding estimated wait times and remains proactive in patient care.
  • Provides personal care assistance to patients, including mobility and dressing support.
  • Prioritizes duties and adjusts workload based on emergencies, stat orders, and patient volume.
  • Performs IV venipuncture after completion of required training.
  • Performs other duties as required or assigned.

Required Education:

  • High School Diploma or GED.
  • Completion of formal Radiologic Technology training from an AMA-approved school.

Required Certifications & Licensure:

  • American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT).
  • ARRT (CT).
  • IV certification.
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.

Preferred Skills & Experience:

  • One (1) or more years of hospital imaging experience.
  • Experience using Meditech systems, Client imaging equipment.
  • IV experience.
