Job Description
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Performs Transthoracic Echocardiograms.
- Sets up and assists with Transesophageal Echocardiograms.
- Sets up and performs Exercise and Dobutamine Stress Echocardiograms under direction of a trained echocardiographer.
- Provides echocardiography services according to American Society of Echocardiography and departmental standards.
- Supports care delivery to a primarily adult patient population.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
Required Education:
- Completion of a two-year Allied Health degree.
- Successful completion of a 12-month CAAHEP-approved School of Ultrasound Technology.
- Cardiovascular Technology program.
- Equivalent education.
Preferred Education:
- Previous healthcare-related training such as CNA, EMT, PCA, or similar.
Required Certifications & Licensure:
- American Heart Association (AHA) BLS.
- ARDMS.
- CCI Certification in Cardiac Ultrasound.
- RDCS (Registered Diagnostic Cardiac Sonographer) through ARDMS within 12 months of start.
- RCS (Registered Cardiac Sonographer) through CCI within 12 months of start.
Required Skills & Experience:
- 1–3 years of experience as a Cardiac Sonographer.
- Transthoracic Echocardiography (TTE).
- Transesophageal Echocardiography (TEE).
- Exercise Stress Echocardiography.
- Dobutamine Stress Echocardiography.
- 2D, 3D, and Doppler Echocardiography.
- Emergency Echocardiography.
- Cardiac pathology recognition.
- Patient medical record review and analysis.
- Preliminary report preparation for Cardiologist review.
- Ultrasound equipment operation and image optimization.
- TEE probe cleaning, sterilization, and leakage testing.
- Quality improvement participation.
- Patient instruction and education.
