Job Description
Job Summary:
- Under the supervision of nursing staff, provides direct care and monitoring of patients undergoing hemodialysis.
- Communicates patient status to appropriate team members and works as part of an interdisciplinary care team.
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Monitor patients during dialysis and report changes promptly.
- Provide direct patient care under nursing supervision.
- Respond to emergencies as needed.
- Reinforce patient education.
- Document care and observations (e.g., flow sheets, incident reports).
- Follow unit-specific operational procedures (e.g., schedules, breaks).
- Maintain respectful, professional interactions with patients and families.
- Communicate with internal departments and external agencies.
- Follow infection control policies and safety procedures.
- Assist in minimizing waste within the unit.
- Support dialysis treatment adjustments within Product of practice.
- Maintain a clean and safe work environment.
- Perform technical tasks (e.g., cannulation, machine setup, disinfection).
- Carry out physician orders within role limits.
- Assist with blood draws and dialysis-related procedures.
Under Medical Director delegation and nursing supervision:
- Administer normal saline via extracorporeal system.
- Administer 2% xylocaine (if ordered) at initiation of dialysis.
- Administer prescribed anticoagulants (e.g., heparin, saline).
- Instill anticoagulants into catheter ports post-treatment as ordered.
- Participate in on-call duties if required.
- Perform additional duties as assigned.
Education & Experience:
- High School Diploma (required); Associate’s Degree in Science (preferred).
- Dialysis experience preferred.
- Dialysis Technician Certification required (within 18 months if newly hired).
