Job Summary:
- The Medical Assistant provides direct patient care and administrative support under the supervision of a licensed provider, following approved clinical protocols and organizational policies.
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Perform initial patient screening per supervising provider protocols.
- Escort patients to exam rooms and prepare them for examinations, procedures, and treatments.
- Obtain and document vital signs and patient history in the electronic health record (EHR).
- Assist with examinations, procedures, and treatments according to established protocols.
- Prepare, administer, and document oral and parenteral medications and immunizations per provider orders, adhering to the six rights of medication administration.
- Document all patient care activities accurately in the EHR.
- Recognize and respond appropriately to medical emergencies.
- Monitor and respond to patient communications via phone, In-Basket, and MyChart within required timeframes.
- Enter medication, laboratory, radiology, referral, and refill orders for provider sign-off.
- Discharge patients and provide after-visit instructions as directed by the provider.
- Collect, process, and document specimens.
- Perform CLIA-waived testing, EKGs, respiratory testing, and other diagnostic procedures as needed.
- Perform phlebotomy, including venipuncture and capillary puncture.
- Serve as a liaison between patients and medical staff regarding concerns or complaints.
- Schedule appointments and outpatient procedures.
- Apply managed care and third-party payer policies, including obtaining insurance pre-authorizations.
- Participate in Quality Assessment and Quality Improvement initiatives.
- Maintain infection control standards, including standard precautions and sterile technique.
- Clean and maintain instruments, equipment, and exam rooms; manage supply inventory.
- Educate patients on office policies, health maintenance, disease prevention, and treatment compliance.
- Identify community resources to support patient health needs.
- Maintain compliance with regulatory, safety, and documentation standards.
- Uphold organizational mission, vision, values, and policies.
- Perform other duties within Product of practice as assigned.
Requirements:
- Graduate of a Medical Assistant program with completion of a formal clinical externship (160 hour minimum).
- Graduate from a Medical Assistant program without completion of a clinical externship but with a minimum one-year experience in clinical medical assisting within the past five (5) years.
- Current Professionally Recognized Medical Assistant Certification with a minimum of five (5) years of experience in clinical medical assisting.
- Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN).
- Licensed Paramedic/Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) with at least one-year clinical experience in clinical medical setting within the past five (5) years.
- Military trained medical personnel with at least one-year clinical experience in clinical medical setting within the past five (5) years.
Schedule Hours per Week: 40.00
Schedule Hours per Day: 8.00
Schedule Days per Week: 4.00
