Job Summary:
- The Surgical Technologist I supports the surgical team during operative procedures by preparing the operating room, maintaining sterile technique, and ensuring all instruments and equipment are available and functioning properly.
- The role functions under the supervision of a Registered Nurse to promote patient safety and efficient surgical workflow.
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Prepare and maintain sterile instrument tables and surgical supplies.
- Scrub in and assist during surgical procedures.
- Anticipate surgeon and team needs throughout the procedure.
- Perform surgical counts per policy (sponges, sharps, instruments).
- Assist with patient positioning, draping, and specimen handling.
- Maintain aseptic technique and comply with infection control standards.
- Clean and reset the operating room between cases.
- Prepare instruments for decontamination and sterilization.
Certifications/ Licenses:
- CST certification (NBSTSA or NCCT).
- BLS certification (AHA only).
Experience:
- Minimum 3 years of experience.
- Extensive Labor & Delivery (L&D) experience required.
Preferred Knowledge & Skills:
- Strong understanding of sterile and aseptic techniques.
- Knowledge of surgical instrumentation and procedures.
- Familiarity with AORN, OSHA, and infection prevention guidelines.
- Effective communication and teamwork skills.
