Job Description
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Assist in preparing and caring for pre-operative patients in accordance with hospital standards.
- Prepare patient skin for surgery and maintain strict aseptic technique.
- Monitor and prevent breaches in sterile technique.
- Provide comfort, privacy, and support to patients.
- Transport patients to and from the Operating Room.
- Position patients based on surgical procedure requirements.
- Identify, handle, and care for biological specimens.
- Prepare the Operating Room by setting up instruments, tables, and supplies per case type.
- Perform scrub duties under the direction of a professional nurse.
- Establish and maintain sterile fields; pass instruments, sutures, and supplies to physicians.
- Utilize and maintain physician preference cards.
- Collaborate effectively with the surgical team.
- Maintain a safe environment and adhere to Universal Precautions.
- Demonstrate expertise with surgical instruments, supplies, and equipment.
- Monitor and control the surgical environment, including traffic control and sanitation.
- Follow facility policies for decontamination, processing, and sterilization.
- Adapt patient care to meet developmental, cultural, and population-specific needs.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Requirements:
- High School Diploma or equivalent.
- Completion of an accredited Surgical Technology program or LVN/LPN program.
- Minimum 2 years of experience preferred.
- BLS certification required (AHA only).
- Certified Surgical Technologist or valid LVN/LPN license required.
Preferences:
Ability to proficiently scrub in 3 or more specialty areas, such as:
- Transplants.
- Open Heart.
- Urology.
- Neurology.
- Titanium Rib.
- Robotics.
