Job Summary:
- Performs laboratory procedures using established and approved protocols that require independent judgment and responsibility with minimal technical supervision.
- Responsible for quality control, instrument maintenance, specimen procurement and processing, and timely blood collection to ensure availability of test results.

- Performs blood collection duties in a timely manner.
- Keeps abreast of changes and updates to technical procedures.
- Follows established protocols for interpreting and verifying test results.
- Recognizes abnormal or inconsistent results and investigates appropriately and timely.
- Notifies leadership immediately of potential problems to avoid compromising patient care.
- Completes work assignments timely by prioritizing and multitasking as appropriate.
- Adjusts to fluctuating workloads and cooperates positively when additional work is required.
- Maintains clean and organized workstations.
- Completes special projects as assigned using LIS, EMR, and other tools.
- Communicates possible delays, issues, or potential problems to leadership.
- Performs and documents required quality control procedures and corrective actions.
- Documents out-of-control situations and notifies leadership of discrepant or unexpected results.
- Operates instrumentation per procedures and performs required maintenance.
- Communicates instrument and equipment issues to peers and leadership.
- Participates in student and new employee training and assists with curriculum development.
- Recognizes, investigates, and resolves problems, involving peers and leadership as appropriate.
- Completes competency assessments and follows required performance improvement plans.
- Performs work within defined error limits.
- Addresses customer inquiries thoroughly and follows through appropriately.
- Assists in error detection, investigation, documentation, and process improvement initiatives.
- Provides annual evidence of participation in continuing education.
Education:
- Associate’s degree in Laboratory Science or Medical Laboratory Technology, including an internship at an affiliated laboratory from an accredited institution, required within two (2) months of hire.
- Combined military experience and training that aligns with CLIA and CAP requirements.
Required Certifications & Licensure:
- MLT or MLS Certification by the American Society for Clinical Pathology (ASCP) or equivalent required within one (1) year of hire.
- ASCP certification or equivalent required within six (6) months of hire.
Required Skills & Experience:
- Addresses customer inquiries, requests, and concerns thoroughly, following through positively and appropriately.
- Timely informs leadership of issues or concerns.
- Effectively communicates both verbally and in writing.
Preferred Skills & Experience:
- Two (2) years of clinical laboratory experience.
